Charles Leclerc ended more than a year without a win in the most dramatic fashion Silverstone could offer, taking victory in the 2026 British Grand Prix as the race wound down behind the safety car. It was the ninth win of Leclerc's career and, remarkably, his first at Silverstone.
Leclerc led home George Russell by four tenths, with Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton completing the podium a further three tenths back — a result that would reshape the championship as much as any this season. The Monegasque had been written off in some quarters as the Ferrari failing to deliver; at Silverstone he delivered the biggest result of the year.
A late safety car, triggered by Max Verstappen's crash, denied fans an anticipated final-lap fight but did nothing to cheapen the win. Leclerc had track position, he had pace, and when the race neutralised he had the lead. After a barren run, he took it — and cracked the 2026 title race open in the process.
